AMY RYAN, PH.D., is currently the Associate Director for Mentoring and Induction at Boston College. In this role, she supports current and future K-12 teachers by developing webs of professional development through connections with higher education faculty, master teachers, and school administrators. Her position combines her expertise in the areas of school-university partnerships, professional development networks, and technology. As part of her work at Boston College, Dr. Ryan directed an annual professional development conference for beginning teachers, the New Teacher Academy. Over the course of the summer event, teacher leaders share a wealth of strategies and techniques to engage students, refine classroom practice, and to set high standards for all learners. She further partnered with the Catholic Schools Foundation on the development of the Summer Tech Academy, a two-day professional development experience for Catholic K-8 teachers. Dr. Ryan also taught at the university level and prior courses include Supervision in Action for Catholic Teachers, Learning and Curriculum in the Elementary School, Computer Applications for Educators, and Integrating Technology for Middle & High School Teachers. Prior to her work at Boston College, Dr. Ryan taught technology to middle school students and collaborated with content-area teachers to develop standards-based lessons enriched by digital tools, serving as the lead mentor for several technology grants funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
